Heavy Duty LP
Obenauf's LP is the industrial strength leather protection of choice of thousands of hunters, firefighters, construction workers, loggers, and others. There is no treatment more effective or more powerful for treating and protecting your hardest working leather from the elements. Applying Obenauf's LP is easy, just rub it into damp or dry leather with your hands. It's natural and temperature sensitive so body temperature will melt it. You can also melt it first in a microwave for easier application. It will not separate. For maximum protection over a longer period of time impregnate your leather with a double application of LP. Apply and go over with a hair dryer then do a second coating the same way.
Obenauf's Leather Oil
Obenauf's Leather Oil is the liquid form of Obenauf's miracle treatment for leather. It applies more easily in the liquid form and is a better choice for furniture, apparel, saddles & tack, baseball gloves, etc. To apply Obenauf's Leather Oil simply rub it in to the leather using the applicator (included in the 4 and 16 oz. bottles), or for larger items use a clean, soft cloth (like a cotton washcloth) using circular motions. When treating furniture, apparel, or other larger leather items, make sure you work out from one corner and gradually cover the entire piece with an equal amount of oil. Test carefully in a small, discrete area when beginning this process to make sure you are pleased with the effect. In addition, you will want to ensure you don't oversaturate the leather -- the only way to determine the correct amount is to work carefully since each leather will vary considerably due to dryness, texture, and other factors. The recommended approach is to apply one treatment, wait a resonable amount of time for it to set (2-3) hours, then test for dryness by applying a bit more oil. If it still absorbs easily, you can apply another coat. If you do over-apply, don't panic! Remove excess oil by blotting with clean dry cloths and buffing until the excess is gone. When you are finished with your treatment, let the item set overnight, then buff to remove any excess oil. Buffing will restore the leather to a soft finish and also remove any tackiness that you might notice from the treatment.
Obenauf's Watershield
Water based silicone can be sprayed on leather, as well as fabrics, for additional waterproofing. Please note that our special water based silicone spray will not harm the leather as many others do (because of chemical suspensions and propellants), but it will not help preserve it either. Ideally, you need to restore the proper oils by applying Obenauf's Leather Oil or LP after which you can periodically spray over it with the additional protection. Obenauf's Watershield applies a water based emulsion with over 16% silicone in a safe, odorless (when cured), fine mist non-aerosol spray. It is especially developed with high silicone content to last longer without flammable or health hazards. Simply spray it on your items that need extra protection, and, as always, test first in a discrete area to make sure you are pleased with the effect.
Important Helpful Hints
Paying attention to the following Leather Care Guidelines can pay off in longer lasting leather.
- For maximum LP protection on your boots, apply a second or third coat.
- Test carefully for saturation with furniture and apparel when using the Leather Oil-- make sure you don't over apply!
- Melt LP for easier application and/or use a hair dryer after application for faster and better penetration.
- Be Cool! Temperatures over 100 degrees can harm your leather!
- Occasionally rub LP on inside leather.
- Remove mud before it draws the oils out.
- It's better and easier to apply a liberal protective coat of LP prior to exposure, than trying to restore leather after it's damaged.
- Old Firefighter's Trick: Set your boots in a plastic bag in the sun after a liberal application of Heavy Duty LP.
- Oil Leather before storing it.
